What Is a Central Venous Catheter?

A central venous catheter (CVC) is a long, thin tube inserted into a large vein, typically in the neck, chest, or groin.

It is used to deliver medications, fluids, or nutrients directly into the bloodstream, obtain blood samples, or measure central venous pressure.

CVCs are commonly used for patients who require long-term treatment or frequent access to their veins, such as those receiving chemotherapy, long-term antibiotics, or dialysis.
